Memories of Woodstock festival [updated 4/8/09]

Memories of Woodstock festival

It seems that after some weeks of tribulation, the Memoreis Of Woodstock has now been cancelled.

Last Friday we were still trying to get our payment from the promoter of the show after a week of false starts, the fee never appeared. We had heard that many other bands had pulled out due to the same thing, deposits had not been paid and bands were generally getting restless.

We tried to keep negotiations going for as long as possible, as we knew people were travelling down for this and we didn't want them to be disappointed, but on Friday afternoon , after giving the promoters a further three deadlines, it became clear that we were not going to get paid.

We are massively sorry about this, but it has been utterly out of our hands.

To anyone who has tickets, we seriously suggest you contact the promoter right away to get a refund

Brian Davies: www.new-dawn-events.co.uk, brian.davies82@btinternet.com.

As some of you know we are playing at the Fish Convention the following night , and if any of you do still have tickets for Woodstock, Fish has very kindly offered the following deal, [extract from the Fish blog].

"Any Pendragon fans who weren't planning on coming to Leamington but who were some of the very few who got tickets for Shrewsbury will be able to attend the Saturday night gig and catch the band.

All they have to do is contact the Pendragon web site [email info@pendragonuk.net] and let them know you are coming so we have the names on the door and then show their relevant Woodstock ticket at the gig to gain entry.

The only deal is that when they get the refund on their ticket that they send it to Nick and the band to help them out."

We have been asked back to the Loreley Festival Night Of The Progs 4 this year, Pendragon's show there in 2007 was incredible. The day visibly lifted when Pendragon hit the stage and their performance goes down as one of the best the festival has seen, if you can, get along for this, it will be incredible...

Also confirmed on the bill is Steve Hackett.

Pendragon scoop Best album of 2008 at Classic Rock Society Awards [posted 18/1/09]

Nick Barrett, Steve Hackett and Scott Higham - 2009

Ex Genesis guitarist, Steve Hackett handed over the award for Best Album of 2008 to a delighted Nick and Scott at the Classic Rock Society Awards Night at the weekend.

Nick says "This is a phenomenal acheivement for the band as it's the first time we have won best album, which I REALLY wanted to bag for Pure. Thanks to everyone who voted for us. If someone had said to me 30 years ago, Steve Hackett will be handing you an award for best album of the year one day, I would have thought....little liars......but it's all come true, like some massive prog dream. To be honest I was a bit nervous, to meet Hackett was really quite a thing for me, in fact I was so jittery I accidentally shut his finger in the box the award came in...imagine that, squashing the finger that played Firth Of Fifth...ain't that a thing????"

Other nominations for Pendragon also included Indigo - Best Song, Nick - Best Guitarist and Scott - Best drummer.

Also Pure is coming out on top in many polls across the world for best album of 2008 and getting many 5 star reviews too.

Classic Rock Mag [posted 13/12/08]

Pendragon's Pure just got this review in Classic Rock this month, the album has been getting brilliant reviews from all over the world and the reaction from the fans has been incredbile, most people cannot believe that a band that have been going for 30 years can make an album that sounds so fresh.

Here is what Classic Rock said:

Happy Birthday To You.

Leading lights of the early 80's Neo Prog movement, Gloucestershire quartet Pendragon celebrate their 30th anniversary in some style with Pure, the band's 10th studio album.

Housed in a hardback book and including an additional DVD [a 'progumentary'], it's not just on the packaging that leader Nick Barrett and the band have a excelled themselves, but also on the musical front. Their 2005 album Believe showed them in fine fettle. Here Pendragon create - from a sound that owed more to the likes of Camel - a full on symphonic delight that suggests Passion, Pink Floyd at their most grandiose.

Epic, sweeping yet accessible and grittily metallic, Pure straddles the line between English eccentricity and today's progressively inclined metal bands. Pendragon's finest hour, without a doubt

This year is the 30th Anniversary of Pendragon [posted 12/1/08]

Pendragon's first gig was 30 years ago this June at the Marshall Rooms in Stroud, Glos, which makes the Peel show more or less the 30th Anniversary show. It is astonishing to think the band have managed to keep going this long through some pretty turbulent up and downs and all with no major record deal!

The set list for that first show consisted pretty much of cover versions which included, Jonny B Goode, Led Zepellin Rock N Roll and Stairway [of course!], Bad Comapny Can't Get Enough Of Your Love, Jimi Hendrix Voodoo Chile, Purple Haze, Hey Joe, The Sex Pistols Pretty Vacant, Santana Sama Pa Ti, Oye Como Va, Free Alright Now amongst others.

Here's to another 30 years!
